A prominent Federal Government Department is seeking several experienced Principal Cyber Security Specialists to join their Information Security Branch. These roles offer an exciting opportunity to shape and enhance the Department’s cyber security capability - supporting the development of secure, scalable, and modern ICT environments that protect critical national information assets. Working within a collaborative and high-performing team, the successful candidates will provide strategic and technical leadership across cyber risk, compliance, incident response, and program assurance initiatives. Canberra-based candidates are strongly preferred, with flexible hybrid arrangements available. The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract to 30 June 2026 + 2x 12-month extension.

The successful Principal Cyber Security Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to:
• Providing strategic cyber security advice to executives and boards, translating complex technical risks into business strategies.
• Ensuring alignment of security practices with frameworks including ISM, PSPF, NIST, and the ACSC Essential Eight.
• Conducting risk assessments, developing and reviewing security accreditation documentation (SIA, SRA, SOA, SSP, IRP, PIA).
• Leading accreditation and assurance programs for ICT systems and services across cloud (Azure, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) environments.
• Delivering actionable risk treatment recommendations and supporting uplift of organisational cyber maturity.

To be successful, the Principal Cyber Security Specialist will demonstrate:
• Proven experience with risk and information security frameworks (ISM, PSPF, ISO27001/2).
• Demonstrated expertise in security accreditation, assurance, and governance within complex ICT environments.
• Excellent understanding of current cyber threats, attack techniques, and defensive strategies.
• Superior written communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality risk and compliance documentation.
