We are seeking Principal Cobol Mainframe Software Engineers (Developers) to join a high-performing Federal Government Department. The successful Cobol Mainframe Software Engineers provide technical leadership across a suite of mission-critical visa, citizenship and border management systems. The successful Cobol Mainframe Software Engineers will secure an initial 12-month contract + 2x 12 month extensions, based in Canberra with a hybrid working arrangement and rewarding hourly rate.

The Cobol Mainframe Software Engineers will be responsible for but not limited to;

• Leading a team of developers supporting complex Mainframe applications
• Providing technical design, architecture and implementation guidance
• Managing development pipelines, builds and quality assurance activities
• Coordinating production support and resolution of high-priority incidents
• Developing technical and functional specifications, risk management plans and status reports

The Cobol Mainframe Software Engineers will have experience in the following:

• Experience with COBOL, AppBuilder or other 3GL development technologies
• Extensive experience working with relational databases, SQL and data modelling
• Strong knowledge of XML, XSLT and enterprise application integration
• Experience leading development teams within large and complex ICT environments
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, analytical and communication skills
