A leading Federal Government organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to join a high-performing analytics and data team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in designing, building and maintaining enterprise-scale data pipelines and curated datasets that enable critical analytics and data-driven decision making. The successful Lead Data Engineer will work across complex data integration, transformation and analytics initiatives while contributing to the ongoing enhancement of a modern analytics platform. The Lead Data Engineer will be offered an initial 12-month contract with a 12-month extension option, based in ACT, NSW or QLD with flexible hybrid working arrangements.
The successful Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to:
• Design, build and maintain scalable ETL pipelines and data integration solutions using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, PySpark and SQL.
• Develop and optimise curated datasets, data models and analytics-ready data assets to support reporting and business intelligence outcomes.
• Establish and maintain strong data quality, monitoring and validation processes, including root cause analysis and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to deliver trusted, high-quality data solutions.
To be successful, the Lead Data Engineer will demonstrate:
• Strong experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python (PySpark), SQL and Power BI environments.
• Proven ability to design, develop and support modern data engineering platforms and large-scale data pipelines.
• Experience implementing data quality frameworks, performance optimisation and automation best practices.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
